Do Your Thoughts Affect Your Feelings?

Do you think your thoughts have any power over the way you feel?

Take a moment and think of the most wonderful memory you have.

Now take a moment, how do you feel?

Maybe you feel joyful, happy, content, relaxed?

Now think of the most horrible thing that could happen.  I won’t go into my list of fears and worries, but think of something you fear the most.

Now take a moment. how do you feel?

How does your heart feel?  Do you feel any tightness in your chest or throat?  Does your stomach feel upset?

We have the power to elicit an physiological response within seconds of just thinking about something terrible.

The crazy thing is, we do it all the time.

Have you ever woken up in the night and couldn’t get back to sleep because your mind was thinking too much??

I bet you have!

As women especially we’re really good at worrying, thinking about all the what ifs…worst case scenarios, and how are we going to ever…?

Our minds are busy!  We think about good things but we also think about negative things and if you think those negative fearful thoughts don’t make a difference in how you feel… think again.

When you catch yourself thinking those types of thoughts you need to abruptly interrupt them!  Get them out of your head.  Snap a rubber band on your wrist or write them down.

Make an effort to notice them come up and then flip them.  State the opposite of what you’re thinking.

If it’s, “I’m so tired I’m going to die,” say out loud, “I have more than enough energy to finish my day.”

If it’s, “no one likes me, I don’t have many friends,” say, “I’m likable and fun and people want to be around me.”

You have the power to win your thoughts back.  Don’t let them run rampant.  Be the master of your mind.
