Health Really Can Be Simple

I know, I know, it doesn’t seem like it right?

You know how it goes… it seems like every year there’s a new diet craze happening.
Right now it’s keto or the ketogenic diet.
I hopped on the bandwagon for a number of reasons and experienced some benefits for sure, but realized…I was eating too much meat.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE meat.  I love the energy protein gives me but… I felt this way of eating to be a little unbalanced.
I mean, cutting out almost ALL fruits and some veggies just didn’t sit well with me.
I completely understand that some people, for various major health issues, they need to cut fruit and high carbohydrate veggies to balance their blood sugar, lose weight and other things, but for the regular mom like myself and probably many of you reading this…
This lifestyle was not super sustainable, I missed fruits and my beloved root vegetables, and it just didn’t seem right.
I had a hard time telling women to stay away from fruit, or don’t eat things like sweet potatoes!
Look, I know it can be very confusing and maddening to navigate this world of healthy living.
I’m going to make it as simple and straightforward as possible.  Here are my 5 rules for eating healthy.  If you want to modify your diet beyond this to fit YOUR body’s needs, then go right ahead.  We are all different so listen to your body’s prompts.
But…if you want the basic food rules then here they are:
  1. Eat REAL WHOLE foods.  Not packaged, preserved, fake foods. (this includes meat!)
  2. Save sugar for holidays and special occasions.
  3. Eat fruits and veggies daily (I like to drink a quart of green smoothie daily)
  4. Eat something fermented daily (kefir, kombucha, sourdough bread, fermented veggies)
  5. Eat (organic) grains that are sprouted or sourdough for best digestion
That’s it.  If you stick with this little list, you’ll be doing great!
Don’t worry about the crazy diets, if it feels extreme, then it probably is.  Stick with what mother nature has provided us for thousands of years.
