Top 2 Tips To Start Going Keto!
I wanted to share my top 2 tips to start going keto that I tell everyone when they want to make the transition to this amazing lifestyle.
Notice I said lifestyle and not “diet.” Ugh, I don’t like the word diet. We don’t want temporary improvements do we?
We want long-term…LIFE-LONG BENEFITS that will help us age well, balance our blood sugar, have plenty of energy to chase around our kids and the ability to have a nice stable mood:)
Getting started with the keto lifestyle can seem incredibly daunting at first.
I mean seriously, all the talk of apps, macros, micros, measuring, tracking, no sugar, no carbs… whaaat? It just sounds like to much for any mom to tackle, and I totally get that.
Look we’re ALL busy and the LAST thing we want to be doing is creating anxiety and obsessive behavior over food. It takes all the fun right out of it!
So I tell people this…
- Don’t eat carbs with your meals: this means get the bread off your sandwich, pasta gone, and no more muffins, cereal and bagels for breakfast!
- Eat when you’re hungry: That may seem pretty basic, but how often do you eat, just because you feel like eating, or because you’re bored? Maybe too often.
Bonus tip… you don’t need to force yourself to eat extra butter and coconut oil. Switch good fats for bad fats and use them as needed. Don’t go making every fat bomb and cheesecake recipe in sight just because you think you need to start consuming large amounts of fat. You might start gaining weight, as often moms will complain to me. You don’t want that!
So my philosophy for beginners is this, look at what you can eat, and eat as much as you need until full.
That’s it, don’t overcomplicate it! Hold off on tracking and just eat.
Enjoy your food. Be creative. Include your kids and spouse. Have fun and don’t sweat it!
The goal is just to eat BETTER, so you can FEEL better and then you can DO MORE! Isn’t that what we all want?
