Sugar Free Coconut Oil Fudge Bites

In an effort to get more healthy fats into my diet I have been working on developing many flavors of coconut oil treats and these sugar free coconut oil fudge bites were born.

Recently I was listening to an interview with Dr. Kelly Brogan who is a holistic psychiatrist.  She treats her patients first and foremost with diet and has helped numerous women overcome anxiety and depression doing so.  She mentioned at one point in the interview the importance of getting lots of healthy fats into our diets, especially those of us who do struggle with anxiety.

She recommended that daily we should eat:

  • 2 T. ghee
  • 4-6 pastured egg yolks
  • 2-5 T. coconut oil
  • nut butter
  • animal meat including red meat

I was pretty shocked!  I don’t get anywhere near this amount! Do you?

She told an amazing story of a women who came to her who was being recommended to shock therapy and obviously this woman did not want to go through with it.  She was incredibly motivated and willing to try anything and came to Dr. Brogan with an open mind, ready to try anything.  Dr. Brogan had her switch to a Paleo diet and add this amount of healthy fats into her diet and something amazing happened.  She came back and reported that she hadn’t had a panic attack in a month, which for her was nothing short of a miracle!

Fat is NECESSARY for survival.  It nourishes our nervous system, helps us assimilate vitamins and minerals from our food, helps keep cravings at bay and keeps us full and stabilizes blood sugar.

I’m not a huge fan of taking a big scoop of coconut oil and letting it sit in my mouth while I swallow it down.  It just doesn’t sit right with me! So I began searching pinterest and of course I found a myriad of recipes on how to make yummy little flavored coconut oil bites.

My experiments continue in the kitchen but this was the first success and I’d like to share it with you.  I hope that if you do struggle with anxiety, you will make eating healthy fats a HUGE PRIORITY in your daily nutrition habits.

Onto the recipe!

  1. Yum, yum, yum! I love coconut oil and chocolate! I can’t wait to try out this recipe, especially for those moments when I need a bite of chocolate. Coconut oil is my favorite oil to use in the kitchen. It’s so versatile for me! I use it for frying (especially eggs), for basic cooking, I really like a tablespoon or so mixed in my green smoothies. I also love that it’s great to apply on my skin and hair or use as a carrier oil with essential oils. I love coconut oil! This recipe sounds GREAT!
