Stinky Toilet Spray

Stinky Toilet Spray | https://www.hannahhepworth.com Create your own toilet freshening spray with essential oils, witch hazel and water. Mix them up and keep the spray bottle on the back of your loo. Just spritz the toilet water, go, flush, and voila, stink free!

One thing that we have to do in our family is to share a bathroom.  All 5 of us using the same toilet…it can often times be a bit of a drag especially if more than 1 person has to go and the first one to get there…ya know…stinks it up!

Enter stinky toilet spray!  Basically it’s a spray made with essential oils that you spritz into your toilet before (or after) you go…#2. The oils create a film on the top of the water trapping the scent in and it leaves the bathroom with a clean smell so no one knows that you…ahem…went.

I’m happy to report that it DOES work amazingly well!  We’ve used it for weeks, 5 people, 1 toilet, yep we’ve had enough opportunities to know if it works or not and it does, with flying colors.  My kids really love using it, you can even spray the air too. It’s incredibly easy to mix up.  You’ll need pure essential oils to get the maximum stinky bacteria killing benefits and a glass or aluminum (pictured above) spray bottle.

I mixed up the ingredients in a 2 cup glass measuring cup and poured them directly into the spray bottle.  All you need to do is add 2 T. of witch hazel to the measuring cup.  This will help your essential oils emulsify or mix with the water.  Then add 10 drops each of bergamot, lemongrass, lime and grapefruit essential oils.  Then add enough water to bring the mixture to 1 c.  Stir a bit with a spoon and pour mixture into your 8 or more ounce spray bottle.

Voila, that’s it.  Each time before you spray just give it a shake to make sure the oils are mixed well, spritz the toilet water with 5-10 sprays, do your business and flush.  You can even keep some in your purse and use it in public bathrooms or the bathroom at work.  No more being embarrassed in public!  Pretty neat:)

Let me know how it goes.  You can also play around with using orange or lemon essential oils as well.  Anything citrus works really well.  Click on the link below to find essential oils at 24% off!

Does the witch hazel need to be alcohol free? More st comes in an alcohol based solution except for some fairly pricey brands!

    1. Actually it’s good for it to have alcohol because that helps to emulsify the oils and liquid. I just got mine at walmart!

Is there any way to make the spray into a solid and a way to hang it from the toilet bowl like those vanish or lysol ones? My 90 year old father would never remember to spray before (or after, for that matter). Also can this be used after into the air?

    1. Oh I use it all the time in the air, before or after. That is a great idea about a solid hanging odor eliminator, I will have to look into that! 🙂

Does it have to be only that blend of oil or would others do as well?

    1. Citrus oils really work well and lemongrass especially is a great deodorizer. You could definitely switch the amounts of the oils. I haven’t tried it with any other oil combinations but it’s definitely worth a try!

I have made this spray with my favorite scented essential oils, there is the premise, they leave an oily film on the water, it encompasses the poo and holds the smell in the water under the oil. It works great unless you have a bathroom lingerer even then it isn’t that bad!
