A few weeks back I was sent a free canister of Natural Calm Anti-Stress Drink Mix.  I was really excited when the company contacted me for a review because I have used this product a lot in the past and have always loved it!  When they sent me the new canister I had been out for a couple weeks so it was the perfect time to start this supplement back up and really see if it made a difference…although I already knew it worked like a charm!

What Is Natural Calm?

Natural Calm is a powdered magnesium supplement.  They now make a calcium/magnesium combination as well. You add 1 t. to water or juice and drink it twice a day.  I’ve tried other brands of powdered magnesium and they taste like chalk and are hard to choke down.  Natural Calm is much easier to swallow. It fizzes when you add it to liquid so it tastes especially good in juice like apple or grape!

Flavor Reviews:

I generally purchase the unflavored powder but when the company sent me a big canister, they sent the raspberry-lemon flavor along with a box of individual packets of all of their flavors.  This was handy to be able to try all the different flavors.  The flavored versions are sweetened with organic stevia. I’ve never been a big fan of stevia, I just think it leaves a weird fake aftertaste in your mouth but I tried each of these flavors and these are my thoughts.  The lemon and orange are my least favorites.  They just kind of taste like medicine, although they’re not terrible.  Mixed with a bit of apple juice they taste pretty good, but with just plain water I’m not a big fan.  The cherry was by far my favorite. Mixed with apple juice it tasted like dessert, it was so good.  My next favorite is the raspberry-lemon, I drink 1 t. twice daily in water or juice and it is delicious.

How Do I Feel On Natural Calm?

In the past I have written about how Natural Calm has helped me with anxiety.  I mentioned above that I had run out of Natural Calm and hadn’t been taking it for a couple weeks.  I was starting to feel a bit over stressed and having a harder time staying asleep and falling back to sleep at night.  I started taking Natural Calm that afternoon that it arrived and literally within 30 minutes I felt a general shift of energy into a more calm state.  It really is soothing to the nervous system. I took more right before bed and felt relaxed and eager to fall asleep that night.  I slept longer that night, instead of waking up at 3:00 I slept until 5 and was able to fall back asleep for an hour more sleep.

Honestly, and I’m not paid to say this, Natural Calm is one of my favorite supplements if not my favorite, and a must have for anyone who feels tight, nervous, stressed, and anxious!

Why Is Magnesium So Important?

Magnesium is a very important mineral that much of our population is lacking.  It is also responsible for over 500 physiological functions so when we are low, you can see that it can have a very negative effect on our health.  Magnesium is also lowered by stress, antibiotics, GI disorders and by consuming too much calcium.  It’s unfortunate that being stressed lowers our magnesium levels because this in turn causes us to feel more stressed! It’s a vicious cycle.

Magnesium in capsule and tablet form is often not completely absorbed by the body which is one reason I really like Natural Calm.  It comes in a powdered form that is very easy to assimilate and I also think this is why I feel it working so quickly.

Magnesium helps with stress, fatigue and low energy, inability to sleep, muscle tension, spasms and cramps, anxiousness and nervousness, irritability, headaches, weakness, PMS and hormonal imbalances, weakening bones, abnormal heart rhythm (often caused by STRESS), and calcification of organs, and panic attacks.

Some of the best food sources of magnesium are kelp, pumpkin seeds, wheat, almonds, cashews, buckwheat, brazil nuts, millet, pecans, walnuts, leafy green veggies, and dark chocolate (the kind without lots of sugar!)
