Holy Basil For Anxiety And Stress

Holy Basil is a common herbal remedy used to help with stress and anxiety.  It’s popular in India being used there for over 3,000 years where it’s known as the “Queen of Herbs.”

Holy Basil has a very wide variety of benefits including but not limited to the endocrine system, which helps with stress management, fatigue, lowering blood sugar levels and more!  It’s also helpful for the nervous system which is on edge when you’re feeling anxious.

Holy Basil has immune system benefits, is anti-inflammatory, it helps the cardiovascular system, digestion and skin!  WOW it truly is such a diverse herbal supplement!

You can take it in the form of a capsule supplement which I have and have noticed my own benefits with using this herb.

Holy Basil is also made into tea and can be found called Tulsi tea.

The most common use of Holy Basil is for improving anxiety and depression and reducing stress.  It is helpful in decreasing cortisol during stressful periods of time and the wonderful thing is there are no yucky side effects like the ones that come with medication!

Adaptogenic

Holy Basil is considered an adaptogenic herb which means that it supports, balances and protects your body and improves your resistance to any type of stress, whether it be mental or emotional.  Pretty cool huh!?

It can be used for acute (short term) conditions or chronic (long term).

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial researchers evaluated the efficacy of an extract of holy basil in the symptomatic control of general stress. Researchers concluded that the effect of holy basil supplementation over placebo on comparison was considerable for all stress parameters measured. The treatment showed 39% improvement in general stress symptoms over and above the placebo.

I love that there’s even research to back up the wonderful benefits of this herb!

This isn’t even the only study that has been done on Holy Basil.

It always amazes me that we have so many resources at our fingertips here on this earth.  I truly believe that there’s an answer for any ailment we experience.  We just have to do a little leg work and find it and try out different solutions to see what works best for our unique body.

I love that we have these various herbs that are powerful in supporting our stressed bodies!  I can’t think of many moms who don’t experience stress on a daily basis.  I know I do!

I take Holy Basil in a combination supplement to give my body a little extra support.  With 5 kids, 2 in diapers and still being woken up multiple times a night I need all the help I can get!
