Smoothies have been getting a little bland lately.  The same old berries, bananas and spinach has gotten old and it was time to switch it up.  Time to add new flavors into the mix!  That’s when this delicious chocolate almond spinach smoothie was born.  Really I just wanted something a bit chocolatey and decadent and this fits the bill perfectly and you can feel good knowing that it’s naturally sweetened with bananas:)

I like to add some extra protein to my smoothies lately, so they balance my blood sugar and keep me filled up all morning, instead of just until 10:30 or so like a regular green smoothie does.  I added just a big of organic almond flavoring and it compliments the chocolate and bananas so well.

Spinach is by far the most mild green so if you are new to green smoothies it’s best to start with spinach. One nice thing about drinking green smoothies is that it’s so much easier to consume high amounts of greens when you blend them down with some fruit than if you had to chomp on a big salad.  It takes less time to drink a green smoothie AND it’s easier for your body to digest because it’s ground up so fine. Generally when we chew, we don’t chew nearly enough and are swallowing and therefore having to digest large particles of food.
