Are You Kidding? I Can’t Go A Year Without Sugar!

Are You Kidding? I Can't Go A Year Without Sugar!!! | https://www.hannahhepworth.com #sugarfree You can do anything you put your mind to and abstaining from sugar is no different. Anyone can overcome any addiction. Let me give you some tips to being successful with this challenge.

In case you don’t already know, I’ve decided to go a year without sugar.  It was a bit scary on January first after a month of eating a bit too much sugar, I was reaching for a treat and realized, whoops, I’m not eating sugarfor the next 364 days…and I’ve announced it to thousands of people…

It’s been over a week now and I’m getting the hang of it.  I’ve also got a wonderful group of people who are doing it with me. If you’d like to be part of the support group you can join the facebook group here.

There are 3 things that will go a long way with helping you go sugar free (even if it’s just for a month!) and these tips can actually work for MANY types of goals.

Support:

First off you need support.  My husband isn’t doing this challenge with me, he thinks it’s a bit “intense” but he is going without sugar during the week days and I have over 100 people in the facebook group who are all rallying together to support one another.  When you set a goal it helps to have support.  Find a buddy to keep you accountable.  Let me tell you, people about your goal is definitely one way to keep yourself accountable;)

Why:

When you set a goal you need to have a good reason why.  For me going without sugar is for my health.  I’ve spent too many years feeling stressed, lethargic, anxious, sore, and achy with many strange symptoms like equilibrium imbalance and dizziness that comes and goes.  Lately it is almost gone and I attribute that to my healthy diet and high amounts of probiotic foods! In the facebook group I asked what were everyone’s reasons for going sugar free?  I’ve heard everything from PCOS, infertility, to IBS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Diabetes, increase in energy and so many more reasons.  It’s inspiring to see so many people taking charge of their health.

Alternatives:

With this particular goal of going without sugar you’ll need some alternatives.  If you’re used to eating a bowl of ice cream in the evenings while you watch TV then maybe reach for some corn chips and salsa (without added sugar of course:) Experiment and find other things that are satisfying.  I love making “ice cream” in my blender.  Mix up some berries and bananas, a little splash of milk and you’ve got a tasty smooth cold treat.  Or you can just grab a good old apple.  At first it may not hold a candle to a pint of Ben & Jerry’s but over time your taste buds will adjust.

I completely believe that ANYONE can go without sugar for as long as they set their mind to.  Start with just a week or a month.

I would love to see you in the support group!

Have a wonderful, healthy day,

~Hannah

Are you avoiding honey and maple syrup as well? How about dried fruits? Just curious.

    1. I personally am avoiding honey and maple syrup, I find I am super sensitive to even natural sugars but many people are setting up their own modified rules. I think there are much worse sugars to avoid so if you are just eating honey and maple syrup you’re still doing great! 🙂
