Chamomile For Anxiety Relief

The more I research about nature’s remedies the more I am in awe of just how many resources we have at our fingertips.  It’s truly humbling.  I’ve never ever believed that we were meant to go through life feeling sick and tired and anxious.

Even when I was struggling for years with different health issues I always knew I would overcome them and figure out how to heal.  I’m so thankful I was so stubborn and kept researching:)

Today I wanted to share with you about the commonly known herb chamomile.

There are 2 types of chamomile, Roman and German chamomile and both have very similar benefits to our bodies. Chamomile contains two chemicals that promote relaxation, apigenin and luteolin.

Chamomile comes in many different forms.  You can find it in capsule form, in many different anti-stress and anti-anxiety blends,  in essential oil form, tinctures, homeopathic remedies and as herbal tea.

Research To Back It Up:

Chamomile is an herb that has been used for thousands of years.  According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks used chamomile for its multitude of physical and mental benefits.

A study at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center found that patients with generalized anxiety disorder who took chamomile supplements for eight weeks had a significant decrease in anxiety symptoms compared to patients who were given a placebo.

According to a 2009 study by University of Pennsylvania researchers published in the “Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology,” chamomile capsules appear to have a calming effect on anxiety symptoms. Chamomile tea may also offer similar benefits. Try drinking 3 cups of chamomile tea a day for a week and track your symptoms.

Benefits Of Chamomile:

Chamomile helps reduce anxiety, calm stress, soothe your nerves  and ease insomnia. It is definitely an herb you want to keep in your home remedy kit!

How To Use Chamomile:

Chamomile tea is a great way to start and is a very mild form of the herb.  Herbal tinctures and capsules are going to be more potent and essential oils are even more concentrated and powerful.

I personally take a special stress reducing supplement that includes German Chamomile along with a few other helpful anti-stress herbs.  I take it at night for some extra helping falling and staying asleep, or I take it in the morning or at any point during the day when I feel extra frazzled.

I also enjoy diffusing and rubbing a couple different essential oil blends that contain chamomile on my feet or dabbing oils on my wrists throughout the day.

Another thing that is soooo helpful is to sip some chamomile tea in the evening to unwind.  After the kids are in bed, and the house is finally quiet and tidy, reward yourself by relaxing and sipping some tea.

If you really are feeling wound up and having a hard time falling asleep, especially if you can’t shut off your mind take the homeopathic remedy Chamomilla.  This always helps me fall asleep when my mind is overactive.  You can also take it in the middle of the night if you wake up and have trouble getting back to sleep.

I hope this gives you some ideas on how you can use chamomile to help you relax a little more and feel less anxiety.
