3 Simple Tips to Kick Sugar Cravings

I know you might cringe a bit when you think of giving up sugar.  Believe me, I love it too.  But sugar can become a problem when we consume too much.  It can cause all sorts of problems including greater feelings of stress and anxiety in your life.

No woman wants to feel more stress in her life!

Below I’ve included my best tips to help you get off this addicting stuff!

  1. Drink LOTS of water: When you are dehydrated sugar cravings are enhanced. Sometimes just keeping hydrated with AT LEAST 8 cups of water a day can curb your sugar cravings, as well as cravings for all types of sugary, carbohydrate snacks. I know it might sound too simple to be true but you’ll be amazed! Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go!
  1. Minimize Stress: I know I know, it’s easier said than done right? This is a topic that I am super passionate about!! When we’re stressed we’re much more likely to reach for sugary carby treats to satisfy us and provide a surge of those feel good chemicals in our body. It makes us feel relaxed. The thing is it may help give us a temporary high but before too long we plummet and start to feel like junk. We get cranky, maybe get hot flashes (even if you not menopausal), it can frazzle our nerves and it ends up stressing out our bodies even more! There are a hundred ways to manage stress but 3 of my favorites are getting outside, exercising, and DEEP breathing. Manage your stress through those healthy ways and avoid temptation. When you want to reach for sugar, take a big drink of water, take a few deep breaths, and go for a walk outside to change your focus and reach for a sweet, juicy, crisp apple instead!
  1. Eat FAT: I know it seems like an oxymoron, “healthy fat,” but it’s not. We’ve been brainwashed to believe that fat is evil and causes all sorts of terrible health problems. There are different types of fats, which is not what I’m going to get into in this blog post, but not all fats are created equal. Some are bad and some are good and even necessary. Check out the book “Eat Fat LOOSE Weight,” by Mary Enig to learn more. Basically eating a diet filled with ample fats helps keep you full, helps you assimilate nutrients from your food so your body stays balanced AND it helps you curb sugar cravings! Yes, you heard me, go eat some healthy fat. I’m never going to tell you to go low fat, I’m not a low fat kind of girl! Eat up on butter (not margarine), coconut oil, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic avocado oil, and pastured eggs with the nice golden yolks.

There you go ladies. There are my 3 tips to help beat sugar cravings. I have more tips but you’ll be off to a good start if you can master these.

To YOUR Health!
